The reported yield

Henry Janin reports recovering 824 carats of diamonds, valued at $5,800, from less than three thousand pounds of washed gravel. He considers the discovery wonderfully rich and expects it to be very profitable.

The yield is reported by Janin; profitability is his forecast. To assess that promise, our file compares the figures with the length of the visit and the points where the samples were reportedly collected.
